Research into medical dermatology, male genital dermatoses, skin disease in the immunosuppressed and cutaneous allergy.
Dr Shim is Consultant Dermatologist at University Hospital in Coventry. He studied at the Queen’s University of Belfast, and trained in general dermatology in Belfast and as part of the West Midlands specialist training rotation. At the end of his specialist training he was awarded the Sir John Fisher Foundation Clinical Research Fellowship (MD research degree registered with Imperial College, London) to study male genital skin disease.
Dr Shim has won awards including the British Association of Dermatologists/Dowling Club Travel Fellowships (2012, 2014 & 2015), the Midland Dermatology Travel Award (2013) and the European Society for Dermatological Research Travel Fellowship (2014). He was awarded the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Educational Fellowship Award (2014) to the World Congress on Cancers of the Skin (Edinburgh) 2014. One of his posters was selected for plenary presentation. He was an invited speaker for the genital dermatology symposium at the EADV (2014), 5th Annual Anogenital and Oral Dermatology Course (2015) and British Association for Sexual Health and HIV Genital Dermatology Course (2015).
START funding has enabled Dr Shim to further develop his research into medical dermatology, male genital dermatoses, skin disease in the immunosuppressed and cutaneous allergy.
